Psalm 62 (ESV)
1 For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
2 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.
3 How long will all of you attack a man
to batter him,
like a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
4 They only plan to thrust him down from his high position.
They take pleasure in falsehood.
They bless with their mouths,
but inwardly they curse. Selah
5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
6 He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God rests my salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah
9 Those of low estate are but a breath;
those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.
10 Put no trust in extortion;
set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, set not your heart on them.
11 Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
12 and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.
For you will render to a man
according to his work.
Episode Notes
1. A Soul at Rest in God Alone (Psalm 62:1–2)
David opens with a declaration of exclusive trust. His salvation, hope, and stability are found in God alone. Because of this, he will not be greatly shaken.
Lesson: True spiritual rest comes when our confidence is undivided and centered on God alone.
2. Unshakable Despite Opposition (Psalm 62:3–4)
David’s enemies attack with lies and deception, but he refuses to be moved. Their words may wound, but they cannot overthrow what God sustains.
Lesson: When God is our refuge, opposition cannot destroy our stability.
3. Preaching Truth to the Soul (Psalm 62:5–7)
David speaks to himself and reaffirms what he knows to be true. He does not wait for his feelings to settle before trusting God. He anchors his soul in truth.
Lesson: Faith grows stronger when we regularly remind ourselves of God’s unchanging character.
4. An Invitation to Trust God Fully (Psalm 62:8)
David turns outward and exhorts God’s people to trust in the Lord at all times and to pour out their hearts before Him. God is not threatened by our honesty. He welcomes it.
Lesson: Trust involves both quiet waiting and honest pouring out before the Lord.
5. The Futility of Human Confidence (Psalm 62:9–10)
David exposes the emptiness of trusting in people, power, or wealth. Human strength is fleeting and unreliable.
Lesson: Anything other than God will eventually fail to support the weight of our trust.
6. The Final Word: Power and Love Belong to God (Psalm 62:11–12)
The psalm closes with a steady reminder that ultimate power belongs to God and steadfast love belongs to Him as well. He judges justly and rules righteously.
Lesson: Our confidence rests in God’s sovereign power and covenant love.
Christ Connection
Psalm 62 finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ alone. He waited perfectly on the Father, entrusted Himself fully to God’s will, and was not shaken by opposition or slander. He displayed both God’s power and steadfast love and is the unshakable foundation for His people. Because Christ trusted the Father completely, believers can rest securely in Him.
