Like Josiah removed idols from the land, Christians today are called to put away anything that competes with wholehearted devotion to Christ—whether sinful habits, misplaced priorities, or good things elevated above obedience to God. The gospel calls us to repent of idols and cling to Christ alone.

How does Jesus complete and surpass Josiah’s reforms?

Josiah restored the reading of the Law and outward worship, but Jesus perfectly fulfilled the Law and gives His people new hearts by the Holy Spirit. Christ is the true King who not only calls for obedience but also grants forgiveness, righteousness, and lasting transformation to all who trust in Him.
