Sound Theology and Discernment with Justin Peters

By Justin Peters

Religious activity, ministry recognition, and claims of supernatural experiences cannot reconcile a sinner to God. Our only hope is Jesus Christ, who lived in perfect obedience, died for sinners, and rose bodily from the grave.

In this episode of Sound Theology and Discernment with Justin Peters, Justin offers Todd Bentley a direct and urgent appeal to repent and believe the gospel. Drawing on Hebrews 9:27 and Matthew 7:21–23, he warns against false assurance, addresses Bentley’s teaching and public ministry, and points to salvation in Christ alone.

A Serious Warning About False Assurance

Jesus’ warning in Matthew 7:21–23 reminds us that calling Him Lord and pointing to religious works do not establish that a person belongs to Him. Claims of prophecy, deliverance, and miracles cannot take the place of knowing Christ.

Justin applies this warning to Bentley’s teaching and ministry. He challenges claims of supernatural experiences and emphasizes that public recognition or restoration to ministry must never be confused with genuine repentance.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ

The heart of this appeal is the gospel. All have sinned against God, and every person will face His judgment. Yet God the Father sent His Son into the world to save sinners.

Justin explains that Jesus Christ is one person with two distinct natures, truly God and truly man. He lived in perfect obedience to God’s law, offered Himself on the cross, and rose bodily from the dead. Salvation is found through faith in Christ alone.

Genuine repentance involves sorrow over sin itself and a turning to Christ for forgiveness and new life. Our confidence must rest in the Savior and His finished work.

The Fruit of Genuine Repentance

Justin calls Bentley to acknowledge and forsake the false teaching and deception addressed in this episode, leave public ministry, and join a doctrinally sound local church where he can learn under qualified elders.

This appeal reminds listeners that biblical discernment should include a sincere desire for people to turn from error and come to Christ. The gospel calls sinners to repentance and offers the hope of forgiveness and new life in Him.
