Standing Firm in Truth in Every Area of Life
Author: Dave Jenkins Show: Contending for the Word Q&A
Show Summary
Christians live in a world that continually pressures them to adjust their convictions, redefine truth, and compromise with the surrounding culture. Sometimes that pressure is direct, but often it is subtle and gradual. Over time, it can wear people down and lead them away from the clear teaching of Scripture. In this episode of Contending for the Word Q&A, Dave Jenkins reflects on the command of 1 Corinthians 16:13 to remain watchful, stand firm in the faith, act courageously, and be strong. Christians are not called to drift, blend in, or reshape the truth according to the spirit of the age. They are called to remain grounded in God’s Word and rooted in Jesus Christ.Standing firm in truth means thinking biblically, living consistently, speaking clearly, and acting humbly in every area of life. Believers do not accomplish this through their own strength. They stand because Christ is their foundation and faithfully sustains those who trust in Him.Listen or Watch

Standing Firm in a Shifting Culture
The culture around us is continually changing. Ideas once considered unthinkable can quickly become accepted, celebrated, and eventually demanded. Christians may be pressured to soften biblical teaching, remain silent about difficult truths, or reinterpret Scripture so that it agrees with contemporary values. The Word of God calls believers to a different path. First Corinthians 16:13 says, “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” These commands remind Christians that faithfulness requires spiritual alertness. Believers must recognize the pressures surrounding them and refuse to surrender the truth entrusted to them.Standing firm does not mean becoming harsh, argumentative, or proud. Biblical conviction must always be joined with humility, love, and dependence upon Christ. Christians are called to speak clearly while remembering that their strength does not come from themselves.Truth in Every Area of Life
Biblical truth is not merely something Christians affirm during a church service or defend during a theological discussion. What believers accept as true shapes how they think, speak, make decisions, respond to suffering, engage with culture, and treat other people.Standing firm therefore requires more than making correct statements. It means bringing a biblical worldview into everyday life. Christians must consider whether their priorities, habits, relationships, and responses are being shaped by Scripture or by the assumptions of the world around them.Every believer should regularly ask whether he or she is standing firm or slowly drifting. Spiritual drift rarely happens all at once. It often begins with small compromises, neglected convictions, and a gradual willingness to allow cultural pressure to exercise greater influence than the Word of God.Rooted in Jesus Christ
Christians do not stand firm through determination, personality, or personal strength. They stand because they are rooted in Jesus Christ. Christ is the truth, the foundation of the Christian life, and the One who sustains His people.Faithfulness does not mean that Christians will live perfectly. It means that the direction of their lives is increasingly shaped by the truth of God’s Word. Step by step and day by day, believers continue walking with Christ, repenting when they fail and relying upon His grace to remain faithful.Truth is not something Christians are free to adjust. It is the unchanging foundation on which they must stand in every area of life.Contending for the Word Q&A
