The book of Proverbs is one of God’s most practical gifts for parents. Written as a father’s instruction to his son and inspired by the Holy Spirit, Proverbs provides wisdom for family life, character formation, discipline, and discipleship. Proverbs does not offer quick fixes or formulas. It gives God’s wisdom for raising children in a fallen world.Today’s question is: What does Proverbs teach about parenting? This matters because parenting is not merely managing behavior, it is shepherding hearts, guiding children toward the fear of the Lord, which Proverbs calls the beginning of wisdom.Our anchor text is Proverbs 1:8: “Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching.” God designed parents to be the primary teachers, guides, and shepherds of their children.
