Question
What Does It Mean to Lead Family Worship with the Word at Home?
Introduction
Welcome back to Contending for the Word. Today’s topic is both practical and deeply spiritual, what does it mean to lead family worship with the Word at home?
The home is often called the “little church.” God has entrusted parents, especially fathers, with the sacred duty of guiding their families in worship, prayer, and discipleship. At the heart of that calling is the Word of God.
Family Worship Is Rooted in Scripture
Deuteronomy 6:6–7 reminds us, “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children.”
Family worship is not a matter of personal style or tradition, it is built on Scripture. God’s Word must be the anchor, shaping what we read, pray, and sing together in our homes.
What Family Worship Looks Like
- Read the Word, gather your family and read a passage of Scripture. Keep it simple, be consistent.
- Explain briefly, share what the passage means in plain words. Ask questions that engage your children’s understanding.
- Pray together, let the text shape your prayers, thanksgiving, confession, and requests for grace.
- Sing praise, a hymn, psalm, or simple chorus helps the Word dwell richly in your home (Colossians 3:16).
Why Family Worship Matters
- It plants the Word deeply in young hearts.
- It strengthens marriages and families.
- It models a Christ centered life for future generations.
- It reminds everyone daily that Christ, not the world, is Lord.
