Suffering in a Fallen World
The world in which we live is not the world as God originally created it. Sin has affected everything, including our bodies, relationships, minds, and creation itself. Suffering is real, painful, and never something Christians should minimize or dismiss.One of the hardest parts of suffering is the feeling that God is distant. The Word of God teaches the opposite. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted. He sees, knows, and cares, even when we cannot understand what He is doing.Suffering Is Not Meaningless
Scripture shows that God uses suffering to grow His people, refine their faith, deepen their dependence upon Him, and shape them into the image of Christ. This does not make suffering easy, but it does mean that suffering is never without purpose.The greatest example of suffering with purpose is the cross of Jesus Christ. Jesus did not suffer because of His own sin. He willingly suffered to accomplish the redemption of His people. Through His suffering came forgiveness, reconciliation, salvation, and eternal hope.How Christians Should Respond
- Be honest about your pain. Scripture does not call Christians to pretend that suffering does not hurt.
- Bring your struggles to God. The Lord invites His people to come to Him in prayer.
- Trust that God is at work. His purposes remain wise and good even when they cannot yet be seen.
- Hold firmly to the hope found in Christ. Believers are never left without comfort, grace, or eternal hope.
