Reckless Christianity and NAR Alignment

Show: NAR to Christ (Lovesick Scribe Podcast) Host: Dawn Hill Guests: Holly Pivec, R. Douglas Geivett, Mike Beckett

Show Summary

In this NAR to Christ episode, Dawn Hill shares Parts 1 and 2 of a conversation originally hosted by Mike Beckett of The Dead Prophet. Mike is joined by authors Holly Pivec and R. Douglas Geivett to discuss their book Reckless Christianity: The Destructive New Teachings and Practices of Bill Johnson, Bethel Church and the Global Movement of Apostles and Prophets.

Together they explain how the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) uses language like alignment, spiritual covering, and apostolic authority, how those ideas create fear and control, and why they are out of step with the authority and sufficiency of Scripture. Dawn also shares from her own experience inside the movement and how the Lord graciously brought her out.

This episode is shared to help believers think biblically about spiritual authority, discern false teaching, and cling to Christ and His Word.

Key Scriptures

  • Acts 17:11 – The Bereans examined the Scriptures daily to test teaching.
  • Galatians 1:6–9 – A warning against another gospel and false messengers.
  • Revelation 22:18–19 – Do not add to or take away from God’s Word.
  • John 10:27 – “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
  • 2 Timothy 3:16–17 – Scripture is sufficient to equip the man of God.

Episode Highlights

  • Alignment and covering: how NAR leaders teach that pastors and churches must be “aligned” under modern apostles and prophets in order to receive spiritual protection, blessing, and direction.
  • New revelation claims: apostles and prophets are said to receive “blueprints of heaven” and end-times strategies that go beyond Scripture, while their interpretations of Scripture function as practically new revelation.
  • Spiritual abuse and control: Dawn shares how questioning an “apostle” is equated with rebelling against God Himself, and how removal from “covering” is used as a threat.
  • Failed prophecies and the Prophetic Standards Statement: how modern prophets attempted to justify fallible prophecy after 2020 instead of submitting to the biblical test of a true prophet.
  • The importance of hermeneutics: many sincere believers inside NAR circles have never been taught sound principles of interpretation, leaving them vulnerable to misuse of Scripture.
  • Hope in Christ: God is faithful to rescue His people from deception, and His Word is sufficient to guide His church without new apostles and prophets.
