Everyone has a worldview, and whether they realize it or not, it is quite literally the way you view the world. It is more important than ever for Christ-followers to have a biblical worldview, specifically women. What a woman believes will influence the way she raises her children, what she does with her free time, the type of employee she is, and where and how she chooses to serve her community. The current struggle is that many women are being swayed by the culture and are no longer reaching for their Bibles to inform their decisions. Social media, blogs, and podcasts are becoming their “go-to” for advice or to determine what is right or wrong, if they are even concerned about that at all. More kids than ever are “coming out,” and many moms are in support of their child’s decision to take hormone-changing drugs. Many women are encouraging each other to get abortions because now isn’t the “right time” for a baby. Women are more self-focused than ever before for the sake of their mental and emotional health. Alcoholism is also rising among women as they seek to deaden the chaos around them. Pornography is not just a problem among men, as more and more women struggle with this enslavement. These issues are not just out there in the world. They are in our churches, occurring in the lives of fellow Christians we come in contact with daily. As believing women, we must come to a screeching halt and do some serious soul-searching and self-evaluating to truly understand how deceived we have allowed ourselves to become. And then we need to do some serious Bible searching to clearly see the path forward.

A biblical worldview helps us to see the world through the lens of the Bible. This means that everything we do, everywhere we go, whatever we watch or read or listen to, is to be filtered through the Bible, and if something doesn’t match up, we don’t participate. This may sound harsh and restrictive for those who equate the Bible with ultra-conservatism. In reality, it is freeing and loving to those around you. As believers in Christ, we are free from the eternal consequences of sin, which frees us to live our lives in light of eternity. We understand that Satan has culture fully in his grasp, and however enticing it may seem, in the end, it means nothing. Or do we understand that? Are we living our lives in light of eternity, or have we fallen prey to the cunning deceit of Satan? These are real questions we must confront in our lives individually and with other women in our local church. When we ask ourselves these questions as individuals and make life change based on the Bible’s answers then change rooted in God’s grace can begin! A biblical life change can only take place through repentance, agreeing with God about our sin, turning from it, and to Christ alone.

It is easy to sit in church and agree with the preacher and, on our way out of the parking lot, have already lost sight of what was said. Satan’s influence is stronger than we realize. We are on the lookout for evil the way we think it will be portrayed; dark, ominous, even obvious, but rarely do we remember the Bible itself tells us that Satan masquerades as an angel of light (II Corinthians 11:14). Satan goes to great lengths to deceive and trick. Satan’s most successful method is using half-truths. This happens every single day, through what pops up on our newsfeeds and social media to the music and podcasts we listen to. Entertainment and leisure are his biggest playground because Christians have bought the lie that this is “me time.” They falsely believe God has no business speaking into every area of their lives. Satan knows full well that a child of God is safe and secure for eternity, so he turns his efforts to distract us from the goal of spreading the gospel and living in the light of eternity.

There are so many distracted Christians in the world today, and they don’t even know they are distracted, that is how good Satan is at what he does. Pause right now and consider the last time you had one complete and coherent thought about God, or about anything for that matter. When was the last time you had any type of face-to-face conversation with a person that didn’t include someone’s phone alerting them? If we were ever to slow down and have a quiet space long enough, it is guaranteed we would feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit that something is not quite right. And once again, that is where Satan has the upper hand in our lives; we are so busy and accustomed to so much noise we have tuned the Holy Spirit right out. The deceit has gone on for so long Satan really doesn’t have to do much anymore because he has trained us to deceive ourselves.

At this point, you may feel so discouraged you don’t know where to begin making the changes necessary to view the world biblically. There is hope because we belong to the God of Hope. Start by setting aside some moments in your day to read your Bible, not listen to it while jogging or riding the subway, but read it while doing nothing else. You see, a biblical worldview is utterly impossible if you don’t know what the Bible says. I would go so far as to suggest you read from an actual Bible that you hold in your hands and have to turn the page rather than swipe a screen and risk being distracted by the constant pings of your phone. Before you read it, ask God to help you understand and apply what you read to your life. Try this simple practice for a month, commit to it every day, and see what changes in how you view the world. God’s Word is powerful, alive, and life-changing!
