What Are the Attributes of God?
When Christians talk about God, an essential question must be asked: What is God actually like? Not according to culture, personal preference, or human imagination, but according to the Word of God.Scripture reveals God’s character, nature, and perfections. Exodus 34:6 declares, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.” Psalm 145:8 likewise reminds believers that “The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”The attributes of God are the perfections of His character revealed in Scripture. God is holy, loving, just, merciful, sovereign, wise, faithful, and unchanging. Unlike human beings, God does not change. His holiness never weakens. His love never fails. His justice never becomes corrupt. His faithfulness never disappears.Believers trust God because of who He is. His sovereignty gives confidence. His wisdom gives stability. His mercy gives hope. His faithfulness gives assurance.Theology is not merely information. Knowing God rightly leads believers toward worship, reverence, and awe.
