What led to Rehoboam’s downfall in this chapter?

His strength led to pride, and he abandoned the law of the Lord (2 Chr. 12:1). God permitted Egypt under Shishak to discipline Judah.

How does God use discipline to call His people back?

God’s discipline exposes sin and humbles His people so they return to Him in repentance, receiving mercy (Heb. 12:5–11; 2 Chr. 12:6–8,12).

What does it mean that humility turns away God’s wrath?

When Rehoboam and the leaders humbled themselves, God turned from complete destruction and granted relief (2 Chr. 12:7,12; James 4:6).

Where in my life might I be trading gold for bronze?

Any time we choose disobedience or self-reliance over trusting God, we forfeit blessings. In Christ, repentance restores fellowship and hope.

Show Summary

Yesterday in 2 Chronicles 11, Rehoboam strengthened his kingdom through fortified cities, faithful priests and Levites, and obedience to God’s Word. For three years Judah walked in the ways of David and Solomon. Today, in 2 Chronicles 12, we see what happens when Rehoboam forsakes the Lord. Egypt invades under King Shishak and Judah is humbled. Yet when they repent, God shows mercy—His discipline is fatherly love that calls His people back to Himself.
