Wisdom Begins in the Heart
Proverbs 23 warns against uncontrolled appetites, the deceptive pursuit of wealth, envy, sexual temptation, drunkenness, and resistance to godly instruction. These dangers reveal why wisdom involves more than outward behavior. Wisdom requires a heart directed by the fear of the Lord.In this episode of Reading the Bible Daily with Dave, Dave Jenkins explains why Christians must practice self-control, guard their hearts from envy, receive correction, pursue truth, and recognize the destructive consequences of sinful indulgence.Sin may promise satisfaction, but it ultimately produces sorrow and bondage. Jesus Christ perfectly resisted temptation and walked in complete obedience. Through faith in Him, our sins are forgiven, our hearts are renewed, and the Holy Spirit strengthens us to walk in wisdom.Lessons from Proverbs 23
- Practice self-control in every area of life.
- Guard your heart from envy and temptation.
- Pursue truth, wisdom, instruction, and understanding.
- Receive godly discipline and correction.
- Recognize the true cost of sinful indulgence.
- Continue in the fear of the Lord throughout the day.
Key Verse
“Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the LORD all the day.”
