What does New Age awakening mean?

New Age awakening refers to the belief that a person has become spiritually enlightened to ideas such as oneness, non-duality, and the false claim that humanity is divine.

Why is New Age awakening a counterfeit of biblical salvation?

New Age awakening is a counterfeit because it does not lead people to repentance, faith in Jesus Christ, or the truth of the gospel. Instead, it promotes spiritual deception and the lie that God, Jesus, creation, and humanity are all one.

How does Scripture expose New Age awakening?

Scripture exposes New Age awakening by showing that humanity is not divine, that sin separates people from God, and that salvation comes only through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

What does Genesis 3 have to do with New Age spirituality?

Genesis 3 reveals the original lie of the serpent, who tempted humanity with the promise of becoming like God. New Age spirituality repeats this ancient deception by encouraging people to believe they are divine.

Episode Summary

In this episode of Contending for the Word Q&A, Doreen Virtue explains what the New Age means by being “awakened” or “waking up.” She contrasts the New Age idea of awakening to oneness and non-duality with the biblical truth of conviction of sin, repentance, and faith in Jesus Christ.Doreen shows how New Age awakening is not true spiritual enlightenment but a counterfeit of biblical salvation. Rather than leading people to the holiness of God, the reality of sin, and the need for Christ, New Age awakening promotes the lie that God, creation, Jesus, and humanity are all one. This deception echoes Genesis 3, where Satan tempted humanity with the lie of becoming like God.
