Mining Scripture: Treasures for All of Life

Scripture for All of Life Series
By Dave Jenkins

The treasures of Christ revealed in Scripture are simple enough for a child to understand and deep enough for the most studied scholar to spend a lifetime exploring. Dear Christian, open God’s Word daily and mine its riches so that you may know Christ, grow in Christ, and serve Christ faithfully.

The Bible Is for Every Believer

Mining Scripture isn’t just for scholars—it’s a daily invitation for every believer. The Word of God is not locked away for the spiritually elite. It is not a code for only seminary-trained scholars to decipher. From the smallest child to the oldest saint, the Bible speaks clearly, powerfully, and personally. This is the beauty of divine revelation—it is both accessible and inexhaustible.

Theologians call this the clarity of Scripture, or perspicuity. Psalm 119:130 says, “The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.” The Bible is not merely for the ivory tower—it is for everyday Christians walking through real life. God speaks plainly in His Word so that His people can know Him truly.

This does not mean that every passage is equally easy to understand. Rather, it means that God’s saving truth is clear enough that ordinary believers can read, understand, and obey His Word.

The Word Is an Ocean of Riches

And yet, while the Bible is clear, it is also unfathomably deep.

Proverbs 2:4–5 tells us to seek God’s wisdom “like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures.” The more we study the Bible, the more we realize we’ve only scratched the surface. Every passage has layers of truth, context, theology, and application that reward careful study and humble meditation.

It has often been said of Scripture, “The Scriptures are shallow enough for a child to come and drink without fear of drowning and deep enough for an elephant to swim in without touching the bottom.” That’s the nature of God’s Word—it meets us where we are and always draws us deeper into Christ.

Know, Grow, and Serve Through the Word

The treasures of Christ revealed in Scripture are not meant to be admired from afar. They are to be mined—personally, joyfully, consistently. Paul tells us in Colossians 2:3 that in Christ “are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

As we open our Bibles daily, we’re not just reading ancient words—we’re encountering the living Christ. We’re being conformed to His image. We’re being equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16–17). Scripture shapes our minds, softens our hearts, and strengthens our hands for service.

The Word of God is not only for Sunday mornings or seminary classrooms. It is for all of life—for parenting, decision-making, suffering, evangelism, and worship. Through Scripture, God comforts the discouraged, corrects the wandering, strengthens the weak, and directs His people in paths of righteousness.

Dear Christian, Mine the Word

So, dear Christian, don’t treat your Bible as a relic or a reference manual. Open it. Read it. Meditate on it. Ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate its meaning and apply it to your life. Whether you’re brand new to the faith or have walked with Jesus for decades, there is more of Christ to know, more of your heart to shape, and more strength to be found in His promises.

Every season of life, every trial, every decision, and every opportunity for service is illuminated by the wisdom God has revealed in His Word.

“Mine the treasures of Christ in the revealed Word to know, grow, and serve Christ.”

The treasures of God’s Word are meant to be mined daily. For more encouragement in biblical literacy, discernment, and Christian living, explore the Scripture for All of Life series and subscribe to the Servants of Grace YouTube channel.
