What does it mean to 'eat at the king’s table always' in 2 Samuel 9?

This phrase refers to the special honor Mephibosheth received from King David—not only provision, but position. It signifies full restoration, adoption, and fellowship with the king, pointing forward to the believer's invitation to Christ’s eternal table through grace.

How does Mephibosheth’s story reflect the gospel of Jesus Christ?

Mephibosheth was helpless, undeserving, and afraid—yet was shown undeserved kindness for the sake of another. This powerfully illustrates God’s grace to sinners for the sake of Christ, our covenant representative. We, too, are adopted and invited to the King’s table by mercy alone.
