Isaiah 6: The Holy God Who Cleanses and Sends

God Is Holy Beyond Comparison
Isaiah sees the Lord seated on His throne, high and lifted up. The seraphim proclaim, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory” (Isaiah 6:3). God is perfectly pure, completely righteous, and utterly set apart from all creation.God’s Holiness Exposes Human Sin
When Isaiah sees the Lord, he cries, “Woe is me!” Having pronounced woes upon the rebellious people in Isaiah 5, Isaiah now sees his own uncleanliness before the holy God. The more clearly we see God as He has revealed Himself in His Word, the more clearly we see our need for His grace.God Provides Cleansing by Grace
Isaiah does not cleanse himself. God provides the cleansing as a seraphim touches Isaiah’s lips with a coal from the altar and declares that his guilt is taken away and his sin atoned for. Forgiveness is not earned; it is graciously given by God.God Sends Cleansed Sinners to Serve
Only after Isaiah sees God, confesses his sin, and receives cleansing does he answer the Lord’s call: “Here I am! Send me” (Isaiah 6:8). Service flows from gratitude for God’s grace, not self-effort.Faithfulness Matters More Than Visible Results
Isaiah’s ministry would be difficult, and many would refuse to hear. Yet God called him to speak faithfully. The Lord measures success by faithfulness to His Word, not immediate visible results. Even amid judgment, God preserves a holy seed and a faithful remnant.Christ in Isaiah 6
John 12:41 tells us that Isaiah saw Christ’s glory. Jesus is the holy King Isaiah beheld, the One who provides the final and perfect atonement for sinners. Through Christ, our guilt is removed, our sin is forgiven, and we are sent into the world as His servants.Key Takeaways
