By Dave Jenkins | Contending for the Word Q&A
The Christian faith has been entrusted to God’s people. Every generation is called to receive God’s truth with humility, stand firmly in the gospel, and pass sound teaching on to those who follow.
In this episode of Contending for the Word Q&A, Dave Jenkins concludes our church history series by considering the call of Jude 3 and 2 Timothy 2:2. These passages remind us that faithfulness involves both holding firmly to biblical truth and teaching it to others.

Holding Fast to Biblical Truth
Throughout church history, Christians have faced false teaching, persecution, and cultural pressure. Their example reminds us of our responsibility to faithfully receive what God has revealed in His Word and proclaim the gospel in our own generation.
Sound doctrine should shape our worship, character, families, churches, and witness. Holding fast to the faith includes everyday obedience to the Lord and a commitment to helping others grow in His truth.
Four Ways to Hold Fast to the Faith
- Receive God’s truth with humility and gratitude.
- Stand courageously for the gospel in your generation.
- Live in a way that reflects the transforming power of biblical truth.
- Faithfully pass God’s Word on to those who follow.
Confidence in Christ’s Faithfulness
Church history points us to the Savior who builds and preserves His church. Jesus Christ has sustained His people throughout the centuries, and He will continue to do so until He returns.
His faithfulness gives us confidence to proclaim Christ, serve others, and leave a legacy of gospel faithfulness in our families and local churches.
