God’s Truth Is Worth Defending

God’s truth is worth defending because it comes from God, reveals Jesus Christ, and declares the gospel of salvation. In this episode of Contending for the Word Q&A, Dave Jenkins reflects on the call to guard biblical truth with conviction, humility, and love.

Jude 3 calls believers to contend for the faith once for all delivered to the saints. Ephesians 6:10–18 calls Christians to stand firm in the Lord. Together, these passages remind us that faithfulness requires both doctrinal conviction and dependence on God.

Truth Belongs to God

The church receives truth from God’s Word. From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture reveals God’s character, His purposes, and His plan of redemption through Jesus Christ. Christians are called to receive, proclaim, and guard what God has revealed.

The Gospel Must Be Guarded

Salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone stands at the heart of biblical Christianity. When the gospel is distorted, people’s understanding of Christ is distorted as well. The church must continually proclaim the good news with clarity and conviction.

Conviction and Christlike Character Belong Together

Defending the faith requires humility, gentleness, and love. Scripture calls Christians to speak truthfully and correct error without becoming harsh or quarrelsome. Our conduct should honor the Savior whose truth we proclaim.

Faithfulness in Everyday Life

Every Christian is called to remain faithful to Christ. In our homes, workplaces, local churches, and everyday conversations, we can stand firmly on Scripture and point others to Him.

This episode highlights four practical commitments:

• Receive God’s truth as revealed in His Word.
• Guard the gospel as God’s message of salvation.
• Defend biblical truth with humility, love, and gentleness.
• Remain obedient to Christ regardless of the cost.

Faithfulness, rather than popularity, is the measure of success. May we love God’s Word, cherish the gospel, and faithfully proclaim Christ to a world that desperately needs Him.
