About the Guests

Dave received his BS in economics from the University of Idaho in 1988. After receiving his MA in economics from the University of Washington, Dave taught at a small liberal arts university in Columbus, Ohio. Dave and his family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, and began attending Kootenai Community Church in 1999. Dave assumed the office of elder in 2001. He’s been active in youth ministry, children’s programs like Adventure Club, and teaching youth and adult Sunday school. Dave is a huge fan of all the major sports and loves the Atlanta Braves, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Lakers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Washington Huskies, and Idaho Vandals. He loves to read and usually has several books going at once: a fictional story, a theology tome, a biography, and a science or history text. God Doesn’t Try is Dave’s first book, written with Jim Osman, author of numerous books including Truth or Territory, The Prosperity of the Wicked, Selling the Stairway to Heaven, and God Doesn’t Whisper.

Jim Osman was born in May of 1972 and has lived in Sandpoint, Idaho since he was three years old. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1990. Jim came to know Christ through the ministry of Cocolalla Lake Bible Camp in the summer of 1987. Kootenai Community Church has always been his home church, attending Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Youth Group.

After graduating from High School, Jim attended Millar College of the Bible in Pambrun, Saskatchewan. It was at Bible College that Jim met his wife-to-be, Diedre, who was also enrolled as a student. Jim graduated with a three-year diploma in April of 1993 and married Diedre in August of that same year. He returned to Millar to further his education in September of 1994 and graduated from the Fourth Year Internship Program with a Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Ministries in April of 1995. He was inducted into the Honor Society of the Association of Canadian Bible Colleges and appointed a member of Pi Alpha Mu.

Jim and Diedre returned to Sandpoint where Jim began working in construction as a roofer until he was asked to take over as the preaching elder of Kootenai Community Church in December of 1996. Now he counts it his greatest privilege to be involved in ministering in the church that ministered to him for so many years.

He is the author of Truth or Territory: A Biblical Approach to Spiritual Warfare, Selling the Stairway to Heaven: Critiquing the Claims of Heaven Tourists, and The Prosperity of the Wicked: A Study of Psalm 73. You can follow his preaching at the Kootenai Community Church website and his writings at truthorterritory.com.

Jim loves to be outdoors, whether it is camping, hunting, or working in his garden. He enjoys bike riding and watching football, especially his favorite team, the San Francisco 49ers, for whom he has cheered since childhood. Jim and Diedre have four children: Taryn, Shepley, Ayden and Liam. They are all 49er fans! You can contact Jim through Kootenai Community Church (http://www.kootenaichurch.org) or at http://www.jimosman.com.
