What is Bethel Church and Bethel Music?

Bethel Church (Redding, CA) and Bethel Music are globally influential in modern worship, producing popular songs and conferences tied to Bethel’s theology and practices.

Why does this episode evaluate Bethel’s teaching?

Scripture commands Christians to test all things (1 Thessalonians 5:21). The episode examines Bethel’s claims—miracles, prophecy, and doctrine—against the Bible for soundness.

Does the Bible teach it is always God’s will to heal now?

No. While God heals, the New Testament records faithful believers who remained ill (e.g., 1 Timothy 5:23; 2 Timothy 4:20; Philippians 2:25–27). We pray in faith and according to God’s will (1 John 5:14–15).

What is the ‘kenosis’ issue discussed in the episode?

Some teach Jesus set aside His divinity while on earth. Historic Christianity affirms He remained fully God and fully man (Philippians 2:5–11; the hypostatic union). The episode critiques canonic views that diminish Christ’s deity.

How should Christians test modern prophecies?

Prophecy must align with Scripture and be truthful (Deuteronomy 18:20–22; 1 Corinthians 14:29). The episode warns against normalizing ‘practice’ prophecies that tolerate error.

Should churches use songs from Bethel if they disagree with the doctrine?

That is a conscience and shepherding decision. The episode encourages leaders to weigh lyrics, sources, and the effect on the flock, aiming for truth, clarity, and love (Philippians 1:9–11).
