Remember Your Creator
Ecclesiastes 12:1 urges us to remember our Creator while we still have life. We should not assume that we will always have more time to seek the Lord. Wisdom responds to God today rather than delaying obedience until tomorrow.Aging and Death Are Certain
Ecclesiastes describes the decline of old age through vivid poetic imagery. Strength fades, the body weakens, and life eventually ends. The dust returns to the earth, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Life under the sun is temporary, so we must live with eternity in view.Human Wisdom Has Limits
The Preacher carefully studied and taught words of truth, yet he also recognized the limitations of human knowledge. Wisdom matters, but human wisdom cannot provide ultimate meaning or save us from death. The truth we need comes from God through His Word.Fear God and Keep His Commandments
“The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.”Ecclesiastes 12:13After examining work, wealth, pleasure, suffering, wisdom, uncertainty, and death, Ecclesiastes reaches one clear conclusion: fear God and keep His commandments. God is our Creator and Judge. He sees every deed, including every secret thing.
Hope Beyond Death in Jesus Christ
Ecclesiastes 12 points us to our need for Jesus Christ. Apart from Christ, death and judgment are terrifying realities. But Jesus entered our mortality, bore the judgment sinners deserve, and defeated death through His resurrection. Everyone who repents and believes in Him receives forgiveness and eternal life.Life under the sun is temporary, but it is not meaningless. Remember your Creator, fear God, obey His Word, and trust Jesus Christ as your only hope beyond death.Key Takeaways
