Defending the Faith with Conviction and Compassion
Christians do not have to be afraid of difficult questions about the Bible and the Christian faith. Our confidence rests in the God who has spoken, rather than our ability to answer every objection immediately.Continuing the October series, Theology in a Confused World, Dave draws from 1 Peter 3:15 and 2 Timothy 2:24–25 to explain why faithful apologetics requires both sound doctrine and Christian character. We should prepare carefully, listen patiently, answer honestly, and keep pointing people to Jesus Christ. What You’ll Learn
- Why Christians can face difficult questions with confidence in God.
- How clarifying questions help us understand an objection before answering it.
- Why mystery and contradiction are different.
- How to interpret difficult biblical passages in context.
- Why evidence matters and how worldview assumptions shape its interpretation.
- How to discuss suffering, sexuality, church hypocrisy, and judgment with biblical clarity and compassion.
- Seven practical habits for growing in faithful Christian apologetics.
Responding to Common Objections to Christianity
Questions about suffering may come from someone experiencing deep grief. Questions about the church may arise from serious wrongdoing. Faithful answers take those concerns seriously while remaining grounded in Scripture.Dave addresses suffering, salvation through Christ alone, the reliability of the Bible, biblical sexuality, hypocrisy in the church, and God’s righteous judgment. Throughout these discussions, he explains why Christians should acknowledge wrongdoing, avoid exaggerating evidence, and represent opposing views accurately. The goal is to bear faithful witness to Christ. We can reject error without contempt, confront sin without cruelty, and show compassion without compromising biblical truth.Seven Ways to Grow in Answering Hard Questions
- Know what you believe. Study Scripture, learn sound doctrine, and understand the gospel.
- Listen before answering. Ask clarifying questions and avoid assuming another person’s motives.
- Represent opposing views accurately. Address what people actually believe and the arguments they actually make.
- Admit your limitations. When you need to study further, say so and follow through.
- Control your tone. Speak with conviction, patience, gentleness, and respect.
- Remember that conversion is God’s work. Explain the truth faithfully and trust the Lord to give spiritual life.
- Keep returning to Jesus. Answer objections thoughtfully while keeping His person, saving work, and resurrection central.

Stand Firm in the Truth and Keep Pointing to Christ
You do not have to know everything or answer every question immediately. Christ is Lord, His Word is true, and the gospel remains powerful. Study carefully, listen well, answer honestly, and remember your own need for God’s grace.Jesus Christ died for sinners and rose bodily from the grave. All who repent and believe in Him receive forgiveness and eternal life. That is the hope Christians defend and the hope the world needs.Continue Growing in Grace and Truth
