Four Trends Shaping a Post-Truth Culture

Everyday Christians face a steady stream of headlines, controversies, and competing claims about truth. We are told that identity is self-created, morality is personal, experience is authoritative, technology can answer humanity’s deepest questions, and spiritual encounters should be trusted simply because they feel powerful. But beneath these claims is one foundational question: Who determines what is true? In this episode of Contending for the Word, Dave Jenkins examines four significant cultural trends and helps Christians respond with biblical discernment, conviction, compassion, and confidence in the reigning Christ.

Four Trends Christians Need to Watch

This episode considers the elevation of personal experience, the influence of technology on how people understand reality, the rise of spirituality without biblical truth, and the use of biblical language without biblical definitions.Scripture does not call Christians to panic, endless suspicion, or an obsession with cultural controversy. It calls us to be watchful, to test everything by God’s Word, and to hold fast to what is good.

Discernment Begins with God’s Word

Experiences, feelings, cultural trends, technological developments, and spiritual claims must all be evaluated by the final authority of Scripture. God’s Word interprets our experiences; our experiences do not interpret God’s Word.Christians must ask worldview questions: What does this claim teach about God, humanity, sin, salvation, and final authority? These questions expose the theology beneath the language and help believers recognize error even when it appears in a new form.

Remain Anchored in Christ

False spirituality cannot reconcile sinners to God. Technology cannot redeem the human heart. Cultural progress cannot solve sin. Only Jesus Christ, through His death and resurrection, provides forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and eternal life.Stay watchful, but do not be afraid. Test everything. Hold fast to what is good. Reject what contradicts God’s Word. Remain grounded in Scripture, committed to the local church, and firmly anchored in Jesus Christ.
