Why does God allow a lying spirit to deceive Ahab’s prophets?

God sovereignly permits judgment by giving Ahab the deceptive counsel he desires (1 Kings 22:19–23; cf. Romans 1:24–25). The Lord never lies, yet He can allow deceivers as a means of righteous judgment on unrepentant sinners.

A false prophet is characterized by ongoing rebellion against God’s Word and leading others astray (Deut 13; 18:20–22; Jer 23). A true prophet submits to the Lord and speaks what He has revealed—validated by fidelity to Scripture and fulfillment.

How can Christians today discern between false teaching and biblical truth?

Test all teaching by Scripture (Acts 17:11; 2 Tim 3:16–17), evaluate character and fruit (Matt 7:15–20), and avoid teachers who flatter or distort the gospel (Gal 1:6–9; 2 Tim 4:3–4). Sound doctrine produces holiness and exalts Christ.
