Book Review: Small Group Resources from World Harvest
The past few years have seen a huge increase in resources designed with the specific purpose of helping believers grow in community around the Gospel. Following in this helpful trend with recent projects like the Gospel Project is a new small group resource from World Harvest Mission. The first book is titled Gospel Identity: Discovering Who You Really Are. This book focuses on the transformation of Christians by the power of the Gospel. Through ten sessions participants (and leaders) will discover just how deep their need is for Jesus, examine the blessings given through our new identity and new life in Jesus, and explain how those gifts change us and move us outward.
The second book in this series is titled Gospel Growth: Becoming a Faith-Filled Person. This book focuses on the role of faith in the transformation of Christians by the power of the Gospel. This ten session small group study examines such topics as living by faith, spiritual disciplines, the role of faith and repentance in transformation, the power of the Holy Spirit, and how identifying with Christ grows us to be like Him.
The final book is titled Gospel Love: Grace, Relationships, and Everything that gets in the way. Gospel Love is a nine session small group resource that helps participants examine their relationships and learn how the Gospel of Jesus Christ frees them to actively love and accept family, friends, church members and even those they just can’t stand. Topics include barriers to loving others, love as an expression of faith, the role of the Spirit in relationships, honesty vs. judging, and how to live with forgiveness and compassion.
The most impressive part of these books is how accessible they are. Each book is filled with group activities and questions rooted in Scripture that will be great for small group use or individual use. These books while designed for use in small group settings are great read individually. These books would also be put to good use for family worship. Whatever their use this Gospel series from World Harvest Mission is pure Gospel gold that will help individuals and groups grow in their understanding of the Gospel individually and corporately in order to make much of Jesus in and through our individual and corporate witness for His glory.
